family time

We went swimming with my family a couple of Fridays ago and had a great time. Everyone was there except Kathy and Patrick. :( Miss you guys! Randall got me a new underwater camera for our anniversary so we had lots of fun playing around with that. There are a lot of photos on this post because it's mostly for my family to see the pictures they have been waiting to see!

letting my kids be kids...

Hunting for lizards I am realizing that everyone has their own idea of how to raise their kids and for many I'd bet it's pretty similar to the way they were raised. Let me try to paint a picture of how I want my house to be...
FUN, wild, loud, somewhat messy, chaotic, lots of laughter...
I want my kids to play in the rain, to take off their clothes and jump in the dog water bucket or just get in with their clothes on, have lemonade stands, play in the dirt, make mud pies, ride their bikes endlessly, make a ramp to ride their bike on, play, play, play.
playing in the rain
I want them to love being home...I want them to feel like life isn't too serious and who cares if they track in a little bit of sand from the sandbox. Who cares if they swim naked in our backyard pool(when they're little), or pee on the side of the house....
I want them to be spontaneous. If they see something that intrigues them...do it. Climb trees, catch lizards, find frog holes, bake cookies, be creative... Build a real tree house or have an imaginary tree house. Camp out in the backyard. Go barefoot if they want to...
I never want to tell them that there's only one way to do something...
I want my grass to be dead in certain spots because they created bases for kickball or baseball. I want the grass under the swing to be gone as well because it has been trampled on too much. Dare I say it, but I really want the occasional broken window from a ball or coloring on the walls. All of that makes great memories and laughs for later on...
I want my kids to come in with dirty hands and feet and not get annoyed at them. I want them to have water balloon fights, pillow fights, and slumber parties galore.
I want them to have memorable birthday parties, family game nights, and do some chores in between. I want to be a mom that cooks for them continuously just because food brings people together and is fun. I want all their friends to want to come to our house because it's a loving, crazy, and fun place where they can let loose and relax and have food!
I want them to make the biggest forts and tents ever throughout the house using anything they want. I want to play hide and seek and see who can make up the craziest spots to hide. I want my kids to grow up in only one house... (that's a tough one at times) As that might seem a little stressful it definitely sounds fun to me! I am thinking that I probably need a couple more kids to make it a little more chaotic. Some of you could never imagine some of the crazy stuff that went on at my house growing up, but I truly believe that's why we all have stayed pretty close to home and still LOVE being there...my parents just let us be kids and have a good ole time. (They still live in the same house we grew up in...like 35 years now) There's still some ribbon hanging on the rafter in the garage from my 8th or 9th birthday party. The growth chart written directly on my parents' closet wall is there showing our heights at each age. So many memories and SO much fun....

my sweeties

Tripp has been getting more bottles than normal because I am getting a little more relaxed on how much I'm nursing. Lexie loves bottles and still asks for a bottle often, but I usually just say no and give her a cup and she's fine with it. Since Tripp has been getting them now she is asking much more frequently so I said, "What the Heck...they are only little once." I don't really care for the "No more bottles after age one" anyway. Why not hold on to that one thing that makes them seem little? Why are we always trying to make them grow up? After I gave her the bottle she went and laid down next to Tripp and these are the precious moments and images I will treasure.
